High School Is A Step Up From Middle School

The start of the school year is quite nerve racking, especially if you’re a freshman. However, once school starts and routines begin, freshman realize they were scared for nothing. In fact, many freshman even say they like high school much better.

With high school comes freedom and everyone loves freedom. The freedom to not walk in a single filed line, the freedom to go where you want in the morning, and the freedom to sit where you want and with whom you want at lunch.

Bel Air High School Freshman Meredith Myers says, “I think that high school is a lot more enjoyable because of the freedom. Now I don’t have to follow so many rules and there isn’t such a tight schedule.”

Not only is there more freedom in high school with what you do outside of class, but there is also more freedom in the classes you take. High school is a great place for finding out what you want to do with your life when you graduate. There are actually choices in the classes you take—which is a new and exciting experience for freshman.

According to Freshman Kiara Bess, “I think that it’s great to have more freedom in high school; you can be more independent and make more of your own decisions. Students are more independent since there aren’t teachers telling you what to do all of the time.”

In high school, students can choose whether or not they would like to be a part of high school sports. This is a very big deal for student athletes because they are now able to play the sport of their choice, for their school, among their peers. High school sports are unlike any other sport teams due to the constant socialization among fellow athletes, team dinners, and playing games on behalf of their school.

However, athletics are not the only groups that cause comradery among students, there are many clubs that students attending Bel Air High School can join, such as HOPE Club, Foreign Language Club, C.O.R.E. Club, Best Buddies and many more. All of the clubs at Bel Air High School are truly beneficial to all students wanting to help the school become an even better place.

Bess says, “My favorite part of high school so far is being on a sports team. I have met a lot of new people and I really enjoy socializing with them every day.”

Although it may be construed that high school is a scary place where the upperclassman put freshman in lockers and throw things at them in the hallway, incoming freshman have found that this isn’t true at all. In fact, upperclassman are actually very helpful to the underclassman, especially in the first few weeks of school when they need help getting to their next class. For many incoming freshman, they are already able to see that high school is way better than middle school.
