Chorus Department Rings In the Christmas Spirit

On Dec. 3, 2014 the Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Counterpoints, and Pop Choir of the Bel Air High School Chorus program performed their winter concert under the direction of Ms. Mathews.

Counterpoints started the night off with Ding-A-Ding-A-Ding performed in the balcony. The Men and Women’s choirs then came on stage to perform. The Men’s Choir performed We Three Kings, Laudamus Te, and You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch with a solo from Joey O’Sullivan. The Women’s Choir continued the night with Candles in December, Born, Born in Bethlehem, and All I Want for Christmas is You, soloist; Lucie Cheriscat, and Samantha Cole. The Men and Women’s Choirs combined to sing A Gospel Alleluia with solos from Duyen Bui, Elizabeth Janicke, and Aimee Shields.

The next group of the night was Pop Choir. They performed numerous favorites of the holiday season which included Deck the Hall, Do You Want to Build a Snowman? from the hit movie Frozen, Cartoon Christmas (combination of various classics which include: The Most Wonderful Day of the Year; Put One Foot in Front of the Other; Heat Miser; Silver and Gold and We Are Santa’s Elves), Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, a jazz rendition of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and from the musical Rent, Seasons of Love.

Student Amy Nowaskey said “I loved it! When the Counterpoints sang from the balcony I got chills!”

The Students that participated in auditioning for All County performed their audition piece Gloria in Excelsis. After their performance, Counterpoints came on stage and performed Sir Christemas, Sweet Dreams Form a Shade, and the holiday classic Twelve Days of Christmas. At the end of the night each choir came together to sing The Awakening.

Alumni Jacob Bengel said “Everyone did an amazing job, I was so impressed with the work these choirs put into their performance”.

The night came to an end when all the choirs combined and alumni came on stage to sing the traditional ending winter concert piece Shalom Chaverim/Silent Night.

The choirs did a fantastic job for this year’s winter concert, their preparation and hard work paid off!
