Peanuts…Naturally

Conner Hires

The Bel Air Library began hosting the Peanuts… Naturally exhibit on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 and will be hosting it until Sunday, Apr. 24, 2016.

Peanuts… Naturally is a collection of artwork, activities, videos, and comic strips based on Charles Schulz’s beloved Peanuts series. The exhibit aims to educate people of all ages about nature and conservation through the kids’ misunderstandings and misconceptions about the natural world. The concept originated from the early Peanuts comic strips in which the children had very little understanding of the natural world (such as Lucy believing the Earth has 48 suns and how some of the characters believed the world was flat) as well as Schulz’s interest and involvement in the Environmental Protection Agency.

The exhibit contains activities and information on trees, birds, weather, gardening, the water cycle, recycling, and other aspects of nature and conservation. The Peanuts animated special “Charlie Brown Clears the Air” will also be on display. The special was created in collaboration with the EPA and the American Lung Association to educate viewers about the dangers of air pollution. The Abingdon Library will also be hosting its own Peanuts themed exhibit; Charlie Brown and the EPA. This exhibit deals specifically with Schulz’s EPA involvement and a series of comic strips where Charlie Brown gets in trouble with the EPA. This exhibit will remain open to the public until it’s closing day.

The Bel Air Library is located at 100 E. Pennsylvania Avenue. The exhibit will be open the same hours as the library (10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday).
