On May 15, 18, 20 and 21 the BAHS Music Department held their annual Spring Concert Series.

The series started off with the Jazz Band and Pop Choir on May 15. Along with the high school groups the BAMS Jazz Band also performed that evening. One song they performed was one that the BAHS Jazz Band typically performs and this got a lot of interaction and cheers from the audience. The Pop Choir followed the middle schoolers with songs that featured several solos throughout the night. The BAHS Jazz Band finished out the night with songs that they played at the Swing Dance the week before, even playing an encore at the request of the audience.

The next performance featured the Symphonic Band and Counterpoints. Counterpoints started out the night with songs directed by their student teacher Lindsay Satterfield. The seniors were featured in “Over the Rainbow” which was accompanied by ukulele player, Sydney Schoff.

“Counterpoints’ performance at the spring concert this year was a true representation of the growth of our ensemble. By having many performance opportunities throughout the year, we have been able to improve our ability to create music as a group, and on a personal level,” said Counterpoints Junior Devin Hott.

The Symphonic Band followed the choir with an intense opener called “Pulse”. The seniors were recognized for their dedication over the last four years with a song called “Rest”.

May 20 featured the Orchestra and Guitar Ensemble. After receiving Superior ratings at the County Festival the Orchestra was excited to get back on stage for their fellow students and family members.

Senior Amanda Tran commented on her last four years of orchestra, “I feel like a retired senior citizen; I’m looking at these baby-faced freshmen thinking about my first year here. Mr. O’Neill has supported and cultivated a wonderfully diverse group and I’m so grateful I was a part of it.”

Finishing off the series was the Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir and Freshmen Band. The Men’s and Women’s Choir were entirely conducted by Miss. Satterfield. Student Conductor Noah Courtney also conducted a Women’s Choir piece.

Following the choirs was Freshman Band. The Freshman Band’s performance was entirely conducted by Student Conductors Brittany Packard and Evan Katsu. Katsu has also been a part of the Symphonic Band and Marching Band as well as being Field Commander this last year. Packard has been a member of the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band this year as well.

“I find it to be an amazing and wonderful experience to play in multiple ensembles. When playing in multiple ensembles a young musician gets the opportunity to learn secondary and tertiary instruments as well as learn about life from a leadership stand point. As humans we learn the most from our peers and it is such a great opportunity to ‘cross pollinate’ and see the music world from a different perspective,” said Packard.

Be sure to thank any music student for all their hard work this year.
