The Bel Air Girls’ Basketball Team played two games in the UCBAC Chesapeake division this week against Elkton High School and Harford Tech High School. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the Lady Bobcats traveled to Elkton and lost the hard-fought game 60-46, and on Thursday, Jan. 5, they hosted Harford Tech, winning a nail-biter in the last minute 40-39.

Bel Air fought hard against Elkton, but unfortunately could not come out with the win. Multiple players played great games, including sophomore Grace Wehland with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, sophomore Autumn Dougherty with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals, and junior Captain Elizabeth Hillman with 3 steals and 3 deflections.

“It was pretty close for most of the game, and I think we played really hard,” Wehland explains. “Sadly, we lost, but I can’t wait to play them again on our home court and hopefully come out with the win.”

The girls played a great game against Harford Tech on Thursday night. They were down in the last two minutes, but pulled together and come up with the nerve-wracking one-point win. Just like Tuesday night, multiple players played awesome games. Senior Oceana Murphy and junior Elizabeth Hillman led the team with 11 points each, sophomore Bailey Springer put up 9 points and 9 rebounds, and junior Keeley McHugh scored 8 points and had 13 rebounds.

“We had a lead for most of the game which was great, but they started to score a lot of points to catch up,” says junior Captain Julia Henry. “We fought back really hard and won the game and I was really proud of our team for getting the win.”

The team has three games next week, two of which are in the Chesapeake division. They will travel to Aberdeen on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6:45 p.m., host C. Milton Wright on Thursday, Jan.12, at 6:45 p.m., and go to Mercy High School on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7:00 p.m. Go Bobcats!
