This past week, the 2024 MLB Season officially began with a series of spring training games.

The “winners” of the offseason were the Los Angeles Dodgers, who made a bold move by signing Shohei Ohtani on a contract for 10 years, 700 million dollars. According to Jim Bowden, writer for the Athletic MLB, Ohtani is “arguably the best pitcher available when healthy”.

The Dodgers were slated as the first spring training game, facing the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers dominated the Padres 14-1, a precursor to what we could see in the regular season.

Other big moves in the off season include the New York Yankees signing slugger Juan Soto for one year, 31 million dollars. Fresh off winning an American League-best 101 games, the Baltimore Orioles signed starting ace pitcher Corbin Burns, and we’re hopeful for a hometown title!
