On Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, Teachers at Bel Air High School celebrated the hatching of the first ever Monarch butterflies in the courtyard.

The science, art, and business departments came together for a service learning activity centered around the new addition to our Bobcat community. Teachers planted milkweed all over campus and in the courtyards to accommodate the hatching caterpillars.

It was the first time the school has ever had a hatching of Monarch butterflies.

“Because we hatched the butterflies, the Governor awarded us with the Service Learning Award,” said Mr. Serokos, technology teacher.

The department teachers plan on hosting more butterflies for the coming years.
