Biomed’s Ceremony for Science

Sophie Dondero

On Wednesday, May 27, Bel Air High School hosted the 2015 Biomedical Sciences ceremony for the graduating biomedical class in which the seniors showed off their medical innovation and posters to parents, family members, and friends.

At 5:30 pm in the media center, light refreshments were provided for the graduating biomedical students and their families. The senior walkthrough started at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria, where each biomedical poster was displayed. Each student stood proudly in front of their posters, presenting a new innovation that they created on their own. Each idea had to be new and approved by the teachers in order to make sure that the product was not already created. Parents and family members were given time to walk around the cafeteria to check out all the ideas, as well as speak to each student and ask questions.

At 7:00 pm, the ceremony began in the auditorium. Mr. Clemmer gave a nice welcome, and then handed the mic to Brooke Schreiber, a keynote speaker who had graduated in the first Biomedical Sciences class of 2011. She shared her experience in the BAHS Biomedical Science Program, as well as offering her congratulations to the new graduating class sitting in the audience. She was the first student whose poster was chosen for the “Wall of Fame.”

Each year, a poster from the graduating Biomedical Sciences class in chosen for the “Wall of Fame” based on the overall poster set-up, and medical innovation idea. Mr. Burke announced the new chosen student, Katie Bowling, and her “Attack the Heart Attack” poster that is now hanging in the “Wall of Fame” located on the 3rd floor B wing at Bel Air High School.

Next, all 59 Biomedical Science students were called one by one and awarded their certificates and stoles that they are to wear in graduation by Mr. Clemmer, Mrs. Barry, Mr. Weeks, Mr. Burke, and Mrs. Knight. The senior award winner for the Biomedical Senior Award was presented by Mr. Weeks to Morgan Domanico for her outstanding work throughout her four years in the Biomedical Sciences Program.

Mr. Clemmer closed off the ceremony, followed by surprise speakers Carolyn Todd and Andrea Mullin, whom thanked each of the teachers separately, giving them gifts to show the class’s appreciation for all their hard work and dedication to the students learning.

Make sure to check out Katie Bowling’s poster in the “Wall of Fame” as well as the other students who were chosen in years previous when you pass the B wing on the 3rd floor. Congratulations to all the graduating Biomedical Students, we wish you great success in your future!
