On Wednesday Feb. 4, 2015, the first Poetry Slam and Open Mic of the New Year was held in the Black Box Theater.

The evening started off with host Olivia Street reciting a poem about Presidents’ Day, Valentine’s Day, and Groundhog Day. Then the Open Mic section began. There were several musical acts, including an    A Capella cover done by Lauren Roller. Nathan Alexander, Morgan Tacka, and MJ Krchnavy recited poetry during the Open Mic part of the night.

Michael Rosman, a comedic juggler was a special guest performer of the night. Rosman came to do one of his routines for the audience, the crowd enjoyed Rosman’s humor and crazy stunts.

“That guy was hilarious! I could never do those stunts” said Hector Belarimo.

After the Open Mic and the special guest, the slam portion of the night begun. The slammers included August Napolitano, Quinn Baumeister, Morgan Nickel, Carrie George, and Christian Malek. After two rounds of poetry, the winner of the night was Carrie George.

“I really enjoyed Carrie’s poem about taking selfies!” said Amy Nowaskey.

The Poetry Slam was a success thanks to all the people who participated and for Michael Rosman coming out to do his routine for the small audience. The last poetry slam will be held on Apr. 22, 2015.
