Orchestra Pulls On the Heart Strings At Their Winter Concert

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, the Bel Air High School Orchestra performed in their annual winter concert. Parents and friends packed the auditorium to watch the talented string players.

Members of the orchestra include many newcomers as well as seniors who have been playing with the orchestra since their freshman year. This was the last winter concert for the graduating class of 2015.

“I was sad about playing in my last concert, but I was happy because I’ve always looked forward to [playing in my last concert],” said Senior Violinist Lauren Fisher.

The winter concert showcased many favorite holiday songs that the orchestra was looking forward to preform since the season has a lot of fun songs that the audience can recognize.

“I personally enjoy the festive music because then the whole audience can connect,” said Violinist Amanda Tran.

The orchestra began rehearsal for their winter concert as early as possible. There is a lot of work that goes into the performances and songs. Many times there are challenging pieces that take weeks to perfect. The whole orchestra must play in unity, with the cellos and violas usually playing the harmony and the violins playing the melody. At the end of the day, it’s the hard work that the members of the orchestra put into practicing that pays off in the end with another fantastic performance.

“We rehearse every day in school, after school, and we are also encouraged to individually practice at home,” said Fisher.
