Tri M to Ring in Inductions

On Thursday, October 10, 2013, the Bel Air High School Music Department will be hosting the 4th annual Tri-M Music Honor Society inductions. The Music Honor Society is similar to other honor societies. Students applying need a 3.5 GPA in the previous year with no D’s or E’s. Applicants also need a 3.75 GPA in their music classes. The applicant must also be enrolled in a performing class; so, for example, someone taking Beginner Piano couldn’t enroll. There are no specific categories for applicants and student in any division of the music department can participate. The Music Honor Society offers a way for students who are inducted into the society to be recognized for their musical as well as their academic accomplishments.

Mr. Domenico and Ms. Matthews are the co-advisors of the Music Honor Society. Mr. Domenico is the band teacher and Ms. Matthews is the chorus teacher. As this is the Music Honor Society’s 4th year, it’s still a relatively new idea, but Mr. Domenico thinks that it’s a wonderful thing, “I think it’s great, I think music is just as much an academic society as other departments, such as Spanish or the other World Languages, as well as Art and the original Honor Society.” He also added “It’s great that music students get recognition that they deserve for the hard work that they put in.”
