The FCS Will See You at the Pole

On Wednesday, September 25, 2013 Bel Air High School will participate in See You at the Pole. See You at the Pole is, “a global movement of prayer which is student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led.” (www.syatp.com)

See You at the Pole began in the early 1990’s in Texas as a way for students to extend prayer over their school, national, and international government leaders. Students were challenged by youth ministers in Texas to find a common day and place to meet and pray over their school. Since every school has a flag pole, this evolved into the place of meeting.

Bel Air High School has participated in See You at the Pole for several years. Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) often initiates the prayer but anyone is welcome to join. See You at the Pole is an opportunity to build fellowship and express feelings or concerns for the school year while offering up to God in a public setting.

Mrs. Orth, teacher sponsor of FCS at Bel Air High School, commented on the experience of participating in an international prayer event, “There is something to be said for participating in an event that takes place all over the world.  It’s kind of cool to imagine students on the east coast coming together at their flagpoles and praying at the exact same time.  I would imagine that students who participate will feel a connection with others who share their faith.”

The students who prepare See You at the Pole hope to bring community and fellowship to the school. It allows people to realize that they have a common bond with others at their school that they may not have realized before.

“I know I always enjoy participating, for me it’s an encouraging way to start off the school year.  The group often starts small and it’s exciting to see it grow into a crowd but we’ll do our best not to block the walkway! … See You at the Pole is an opportunity to pray for our school, its students, and its teachers but also to just thank God for another beautiful day,” says junior and FCS member Ely Lozada about her experience with See You at the Pole in the past.

See You at the Pole will take place on Wednesday, September 25. Students who wish to participate can arrive at any time but prayer will commence at 7 AM.
