This summer, there are many new (and somewhat retro) clothing styles making an appearance on streets across the globe, and you definitely don’t want to be caught piecing together last year’s stale fashion plunders. Many eras have been whipped together to come up with the hottest clothes this summer, and we don’t want you to miss out on the fashion tips of the season.

Be sure to check out the slide show under the story pictures and prices for all of these great summer clothing ideas.

Bathing suits

Summer time is centered on the infinite and eternal longing that many feel for nine months out of the year. The bathing suit is a key piece in any persons summer wardrobe, and the itching you’ve had this winter is finally about to be scratched with the best of the hottest trends for this 2012 season. Many people lack the “key essentials” when it comes to shopping for bathing suits, and it’s time to lay down the law on tankinis and bandeaus.

Choosing the proper suit

  • DO try bathing suits on before you buy them, you never know what it could look like on
  • DON’T buy something that is either too big or small, find something that is right for YOU
  • DO wear something that flatters your body, if you have a larger bust wear a top with thicker straps, if you’re smaller in that area anything goes, really
  • DON’T go crazy with the embellishments, you’re going to the pool or the beach, not the club
  • DO work the patterns! Patterns will draw the eye to you in a positive way, as long as you don’t mix patterns too severely
  • DON’T wear a tankini if you have nothing to hide, if you’ve got it, flaunt it!
  • DO get a set of black bottoms, that way any top will match with them, and because you can usually buy tops and bottoms separate, it’s a good way to save money and look fabulous

Tops

Well, here it is…. Top time! Tops are a great way to cover up after the beach, or to make a statement at a toasty bonfire. Many styles from the 80’s and 90’s are making an appearance this summer, and it’s time to do the rundown of the latest and greatest.

Bottoms

Leggings and jeans are definitely not a necessity this summer as the shorts and capris make their debut.

Shoes

The usual flip flops won’t do this summer as cute gladiator sandals and comfortable espadrilles take the spotlight, so that you can walk in style and confidence down those warm, Ocean City streets.
