A Homecoming Win for Bel Air Football

Daniel Webber

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Bel Air Bobcats took on the Hawks from North Harford and came away with a 29-15 homecoming victory to push their record to 7-1 and to regain their spot atop the conference.

The Hawks grabbed an early lead after a fumble on the second play. A two-point conversion following an offside penalty on the original extra point attempt gave the Hawks an 8-0 lead.

The Bobcats answered, however, with a long drive capped off by a power play to the right side of the line that got the Bobcat offense started. A two-point conversion of their own tied up the game at 8-8.

“We answered quickly which is exactly what we needed to do.” Senior Daniel Webber states. “Last week we had trouble responding to Aberdeen’s lead, so it was good to see the team bounce back this week and put up a quick one to tie it up.”

The offense slowed down and the first half ended with the game still knotted up at 8-8 due to a few costly turnovers by the Bobcats and a great defensive effort by the Hawks in North Harford territory. Bel Air, in response, got a quick three and out on defense and drove down the field to score once again to open the third quarter. This gave the Bobcats the lead that they did not surrender for the rest of the game.

“We knew we had to get a stop to open the third quarter and get the momentum in our favor and that’s exactly what we did. It was great to get back out on the field and I’m so proud of all the guys for doing their jobs.” Says senior Keegan McHugh who was playing his first game since the Bobcats visited Fallston due to a MCL injury that sidelined him for a few weeks.

The Bobcats are away this coming Friday, Oct. 28, at Edgewood High School at 7:00 p.m. Come out and support the boys as they look to pick up another win against the Edgewood Rams.
