On Monday, April 11, the Bel Air Bobcats traveled to River Hill High School to compete for the first time in the Howard Invitational.

Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams did extremely well on Monday with many people placing in their respected events. The girls’ team also placed third overall as a team.

The Bobcats did amazingly in the field events with many throwers and jumpers placing. Jake Sparr, senior at Bel Air, placed third and second in the shotput and discus events with scores of 135’ 2” in the discus and 38’4” in the shot.

“It was nice to see so many people preforming so well in their events. I really believe it is a testament to how hard the team has been working during practice in order to become the best they possibly can,” said Sparr.

The relay teams also excelled in their events and proved that Bel Air can compete among the best 4A teams in our region. One of these team, the girls’ 4×200 meter relay team, placed second at the meet with a very impressive time.

“We really felt like everything came together at the right time and I believe that is what allowed us to do so well during our event,” said Junior Sprinter Julia Merritt.

The Bobcats next track meet is the Al Baker Relays on Thursday, April 14. The meet will be held at C Milton Wright High School and will be another great chance for the Bobcats to prove themselves. Come out and watch the Bobcats take on many county rivals.
