Varsity Football Begins with a Win

On Friday, Sept. 4, the Bel Air High School Bobcats varsity football team took on Dulaney at home winning 44-13 to start off the season.

The game got off to a quick start when junior, Keegan McHugh, took the opening handoff for a 72 yard touchdown behind Junior Alex Muneses, and Senior Jacob Tull. Key blocks downfield throughout Friday’s game contributed to the success of the run game.

“The blocks showed up right in front of me after I got through the first level, it was really great to get off to such a good start to the season with a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Our hard work has paid off and I am excited to get back to work and prepare for next Friday.” Said junior McHugh.

The defense came up big to give the ball back to the Bobcats right before the end of the first half. Senior Jimmy Nicol, and the Bel Air offense made quick work of the Lions defense and scored in the closing seconds of the first half on a pass from Nicol to Junior Devin Adams.

“Without the great stop by the defense we would never have been able to make the plays that we did to give the team momentum going into the second half. It was a great route by Adams and good protection from the offensive line for an all-around, well executed play,” said Nicol.

The Bobcats matched their first half intensity right from the start of the second half, forcing the Lions to a quick three and out giving the ball back to the offense. With a shutout in the second half the game ended with a score of 44-13 with the Bobcats on top.

This week’s game will be away at Friendly High School on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 pm. The boys look to repeat their successes from week one and come out on top with yet another victory. Go Bobcats!
