Softball Takes First Round with a 26 Run Cushion

On May 8, 2014, the Bel Air High School Softball Team defeated Dundalk High School 26-0 in the first round of the regional tournament.

Rayn Gibson pitched a perfect game and was able to strike out 14 of the 15 batters that came up to the plate.  The game lasted only 5 innings due to the mercy rule.  Throughout the 5 innings, Gibson was also able to be productive at the plate, hitting a 3 run homerun along with 2 other base hits. Bel Air was able acquire 22 hits throughout the game.  Sarah Fleischmann went 5-5 with a double and 3 RBIs.  Leah Lozzi had an RBI triple and Taylor Hensley had a double and 3 RBIs. Emily Strawbridge went 3-5 with a 2 RBI double.

Coach Donaldson said, “I am pleased with our performance today and I’m excited to see us moving on to the next round. On Monday, we have a great opportunity to knock out a team that has beat us twice.  This is the best time of the season to be playing the best softball of the year.”

The Bobcats’ next game is against C. Milton Wright at C. Milton Wright High School.  The winner of this game will continue on to the Regional Championship game.
