Wrestling Advances 4 to States

On Fri., Feb. 28, 2014, the Wrestling team travelled to North East High School in Anne Arundel County to compete in the 3A/4A Regional Individual Tournament.

The Bobcats had 12 of the 14 wrestlers on the team roster competing at Regionals and after two long days of wrestling, the team had four members place in the top four of their weight class. Junior David Reagan and Seniors Gavin Rupprecht, John Cross and Grant Fleming all placed to bring home a Regional title. Reagan earned first place (106), Rupprecht placed second (113), Cross also earned second place (152) and then Fleming earned fourth place (170).

“I am very happy about how all our guys wrestled,” stated Coach Reddish. “We faced a lot of good competition and it’s an honor to have four of the guys place top four in their weight class.”

The regional tournament was in the same format of the UCBAC tournament. Each wrestler would wrestle individually but their points would go to an overall team score. At the end of the weekend, the team finished second with a total team score of 95.5 points edged only by first place River Hill High School

“It was an honor to place at regionals, I faced a bunch of tough competition but I knew what I had to do and I got the wins,” explained Senior Captain Grant Fleming. “It was really cool to see John, David and Gavin place as well. Everyone wrestled so well at regionals.”

Four of the Bobcats are heading into the last wrestling event of the year, states. To qualify for states, the wrestler must be state ranked and the ‘Cats have four state ranked wrestlers; Reagan, Rupprecht, Cross and Fleming.

Up next for the Bobcats is the State Championships for individuals. The ‘Cats have a total of four wrestlers, Junior David Reagan and Seniors Gavin Rupprecht and Captains John Cross and Grant Fleming, that will be competing for the individual state champion title at College Park in the Cole Field House on Fri., Mar 7 and 8, 2014.
