Wrestling Picks Up Momentum Coming into Week

On Fri., Jan. 7, 2014, the Wrestling Team took on the Atholton Raiders at Atholton High School and eventually came out with a dominant 61-10 Bobcat win.

The Bobcats started the match with a loss but then Senior Captain Grant Fleming got the Bobcats started with the first win of the match. Altholton matched the Bobcat win with their second and final win of the match. The Bobcats went to finish the match with ten consecutive wins with four being forfeit, five coming off pins and one where no one was in that weight class for the day. After the ten consecutive wins, the Bobcats came out to win the match 61-10 win.

“We wrestled a great match against Altholton,” Junior Nick Kutz said. “There were a lot of forfeits and wins given to us but the guys who did wrestle wrestled very well and it was a really solid team win.”

On Mon., Jan. 10, 2014, the Wrestling Team came off a weekend break to face Rising Sun at home and came out victorious  58-15.

The Bobcats started the match with a solid win from Junior Pablo Chavarria who shut out his opponent 15-0. Rising Sun then tallied a loss, but the ‘Cats rebounded to get seven wins in a row, two being forfeits. Junior David Reagan and Seniors Gavin Rupprechet, Kenny Scoggings and Captains Grant Fleming and Cyler Crawford all contributed to the win streak. After the seven win run, Rising Sun came back to get a win. After Rising Sun’s short comeback, Seniors Sam Guo and Ryan Beveridge both achieved wins to help secure the Bobcat win Senior Captain John Cross answered another lone Rising Sun victory with his own, officially securing the 58-15 win.

“I am very proud of how the team wrestled against Rising Sun,” stated Senior Captain Grant Fleming. “With Regional Duals coming up on Wednesday, the whole team is motivated and ready to perform the best we can at Regional’s.”

The wrestling team moves to 20-2 overall and 12-0 in their conference. The team travels to River
Hill High School to compete in the 3A/4A Regional Duals at 5:30 P.M. on Wed., Feb. 12.
