Lady Bobcats Cheer Moves on to States

On Fri., Feb. 7, 2014, after 6 cancelations due to weather, the Bel Air High School Varsity Cheerleaders placed 2nd at the Harford County Cheerleading Competition.

For the first time ever, the County Competition was held at the APGFCU Arena in Harford Community College. The doors opened at 5:30 P.M. for the competition starting at 6:00 P.M. Tickets were sold at the door; the Bobcat fan section was bigger and louder than ever. The Varsity team had high hopes of placing in the Top 3 after failing to make Regionals in the Fall Season.

The Lady Bobcats performed at 8:15 P.M. They performed very well with a few small flaws and had only minor deductions.  The girls placed 2nd with a score of 134.2. Harford Tech placed 3rd with a score of 132.8 and C Milton Wright came in 1st with a score of 138.4

The Team was happy to be moving on to Regionals and the girls were ready to compete again the next morning at North County High School.

On Sat., Feb. 8, the Bel Air High School Varsity Cheerleaders placed 2nd at the North Regionals Cheerleading Competition.

It was an early morning for the girls; they arrived to the school at 6:15 A.M. to get ready and left school at 7:00 A.M.  The competition was held at North County High School.  Doors opened at 9:30 A.M. and the competition began at 10:00 A.M.

Bel Air Varsity performed 10th out of 16 teams. They performed very wonderfully and hit their routine without any flaws for the first time in competition this season.  The top 8 teams move on to the Maryland State Competition and Bel Air was very confident they would be one of them.  There were four other teams who hit perfect routines: C Milton Wright, Harford Tech, Eastern Tech, and of course Bel Air.  The first place finish would come down to these four teams.

At awards, Harford Tech was awarded 4th place with a score of 133.15. Eastern Tech was 3rd with a score of 133.95. Bel Air was 2nd with a score of 135.4, only .2 of a point behind C Milton Wright with a score of 135.6 for the win.

Although it was difficult to come so close to C. Milton Wright and only lose by .2, the girls were very happy with their performance.  The Bel Air Cheerleading Team will be competing again at North County High School for the Maryland State Competition on Wed., Feb. 12.  Tickets will be $7 and the competition will start at 6:00 P.M.  A fan bus is being offered to the Bel Air student body at a rate $10 per person.  See Ms. Hemmes to pay for the bus by Wed., Feb. 12 at 7:15 A.M. Come and support your Lady Bobcat cheerleaders!
