Wrestling Picks Up 2 Wins to End January

On Jan. 30, 2014, the wrestling team wrestled against Gilman High School and St. Mary’s High School in a Tri-Meet at Gilman High School.

The Bobcats wrestled against St. Mary’s first and defeated them by a score of 52-24. The ‘Cats got the match started with three wins in a row by Junior Brady Stafford and Seniors Kenny Scoggins and Ryan Beveridge. After a Bobcat loss, Junior Cameron Watts and Senior John Cross achieved two straight wins for the Bobcats. St. Mary’s got revenge on the ‘Cats with three straight wins, but the Bobcats finished out the match with a solid four wins by Sophomore Dakota Crawford, Junior David Reagan and Seniors Cyler Crawford and Gavin Rupprecht to secure a 52-24 win.

“We all worked really hard to get the wins for the team at the Tri-Meet and we all performed very well,” stated Senior Captain Grant Fleming. “With the season almost coming to an end and Regionals coming up, everyone is working really hard to be able to go as far as we can in the playoffs.”

The Bobcats then wrestled Gilman in a tight match but eventually came out with the 42-30 win. The ‘Cats started the match with two tough losses but  Junior Cameron Watts and Seniors Sam Guo and John Cross all won to give the Bobcats the lead. A win by Gilman was matched with a win from Senior Grant Fleming of Bel Air. Gilman then won the next two matches but the Bobcats responded by winning the final four matches. Sophomore Dakota Crawford, Junior David Reagan and Seniors Cyler Crawford and Gavin Rupprecht each played their part, picking up wins to put the final nail in the coffin.

On Jan. 31, 2014, the Bobcats defeated the Patterson Mill Huskies 42-21. Freshman Tommy Gomez and Senior Captain Grant Fleming won the first two of the matches for the Bobcats. The Huskies got revenge with a win but the ‘Cats stormed back to win the next three in a row with wins coming from Sophomore Dakota Crawford, Junior David Reagan and Senior Captain Cyler Crawford. The Huskies then went on to get the next three wins of the match. The ‘Cats finished strong with four consecutive wins coming from Junior Cameron Watts, Seniors Ryan Beveridge and Sam Guo, and Captain John Cross. The ‘Cats ended the match with a loss but came out on top with a 42-21 win against the Huskies.

“I am very proud of how we wrestled against Patterson Mill,” stated Sophomore Dakota Crawford. “It was a tight match and it had its ups and downs, but we came out on top because we all wrestled very hard and we didn’t give up.”
