Wrestling Takes Down Falcons, Cross Reaches 100th Win

On Thu., Jan. 9, 2014, the Wrestling team traveled to Severna Park to wrestle the Falcons.  The Bobcats defeated Severna Park by a score of 61-12.

The Bobcats won the first match when Junior David Reagan pinned his opponent in the first twenty seconds of the match. After a Bobcat loss, the team came together to achieve the next nine wins of the match. Junior Cameron Watts and Seniors Sam Guo, and Captains Grant Fleming and John Cross all recorded pins in the ‘Cats win. John Cross’ win was the 100th of his high school career. Sophomore Jack Jenkens, Juniors Pablo Chivarria and Brady Stafford, and Senior Ryan Beveridge, each recorded individual wins. The Bobcats also won a match by forfeit. The Bobcats finished the match with two pins by Sophomore Dakota Crawford and Senior Captain Cyler Crawford, securing a 61-12 victory against the Falcons.

“It was a really good win over Severna Park. It’s always good to compete against a team with really good competition and a team in our region. Severna Park wrestled very well and we got the job done,” stated Coach Reddish in regard to the match.

Senior John Cross achieved his 100th win at this match. He is the third member of the Cross family to achieve 100 wins. John also has two older brothers who have also achieved the milestone. His oldest brother, Steve Cross, earned a solid 144 wins and his brother Matt Cross earned 135 wins while they wrestled at Bel Air. Matt is now an assistant coach for the wrestling team.

“It is such an accomplishment and honor to achieve 100 wins.  It feels awesome because it really shows all my hard work has paid off. I am lucky to have the support by my coaches and teammates to accomplish this,” expressed Senior Captain John Cross about his landmark win.

During his match, John scored the first points in the first period and held his opponent to no points. During the second period, John chose down and earned a reversal and then pinned his opponent with a fall time of three minutes and twenty- two seconds.

“John getting his 100th win is really cool and it’s awesome because John now joins his brothers in the 100 win category.” Coach Reddish stated.

The Bobcats now move to a 13-4 record and 5-0 in their conference. The Bobcats travel to Bo Manor on Wed., Jan. 25to wrestle in their next meet.
