Maryland’s Uniforms: Flagtastic?

Last Monday night, September 5th, the University of Maryland Terrapins were set to play the University of Miami Hurricanes in another good ACC Football matchup. The Terrapins were due to debut their new uniforms, produced by Under Armour. The Terps practiced in their new uniforms on the field before the game. The Terps and Hurricanes returned to their locker rooms shortly before game-time, for pre-game speeches from the coaches. Everything seemed normal, until Maryland came back onto the field, sporting completely new uniforms than what they had just worn for practice. And so the media buzz began. Maryland’s unexpected new uniforms were based on the Maryland State Flag, making the uniforms unique and colorful. Another fact to add making them seem cooler is, Maryland won. How can you argue with that?

Many different opinions have been stated across the country regarding these one of a kind threads. Jeremy Navarre, former University of Maryland football player and Assistant here at Bel Air High, had this to say: “Maryland is the new Oregon when it comes to uniforms. People either love them or hate them. Either way everyone is talking about them. Even Lebron James is tweeting about them. Personally they are growing on me and I love the buzz they are getting”. Navarre, referring to The University of Oregon Ducks football team, who are famous for their many uniform colors and combinations.

Freshman Jack Struve stated “I thought the new uniforms were sick!” Of course, in this case, sick meaning awesome. After watching this new uniform showcase, the question arises: What else will we see from Maryland football this year?
