Bobcat Statue Gets A Makeover

This summer, Senior Andrew Visconti, completed his community service project to become an Eagle Scout by cleaning up around the Bobcat Statue and planting a variety of plants to accent a new walkway.

To plan the project, Visconti had to organize many fundraisers with several companies to get materials delivered. The Bel Air Cultural Arts Commission donated $500 towards the project, giving the final boost to complete the project.

Visconti installed a brick paver pathway and preformed landscaping around the area.

Visconti says, “At any event held at Bel Air High School it is evident that we are all one big family. The recently added Bobcat sculpture serves as a symbol for our unity. Alumni and current students worked tirelessly in order to put in the sculpture, and I wanted to do my part to give back to the school as well. When I was starting my project I wanted to do something that would display the tradition and community we have an established here at the high school. I hope that it will stand as a place where current students, alumni, and members of the community can visit and marvel at all Bel Air High School has to offer.”

Many of Visconti’s teammates, family members, and supporters came out to the statue during their free time to help him complete his project and speed up the process. A total of 252 hours was spent cleaning up the area.

Anthony Blackburn, the new Athletic Director, says “I think this is a great thing that Andrew did. It really makes the Bobcat Statue look like it is part of the stadium now. I was very impressed by the number of Andrew’s teammates that came out to help him for this project.”

The Bobcat Statue will be visible for fans to see at every athletic event. Come out and view the statue and support your hometown bobcats.
