Starting on Dec. 9 and ending on Dec. 19, Bel Air High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society collected toys and money for the Toys for Tots organization to help the less fortunate during the Christmas holiday.
The organization Toys for Tots collects donations of new toys and money from October to December during the year. The toys are then distributed to needy children in your community on Christmas. Toys for Tots has been around since 1947, and continues to contribute to making the holidays easier, and happier for those who are less fortunate.
Donations from students or teachers at BAHS were collected in homeroom from 7:00 A.M. to 7:25 A.M. each morning. Also, during concerts held by BAHS from Dec. 10 to Dec. 19, where families and friends of students could donate as well. Some teachers in the school took it into their own hands to raise a goal for their students on how much money they could donate.
In total, with the help of teachers, administrators, students and their friends and families, Bel Air High School donated over $2,400 in money and over 12 large boxes of toys to Toys for Tots.
“I am very proud of the students in the music department and how they stepped up to help the children in Harford County who are in need this holiday season. I think it shows what kind of people they really are,” says Mr. Tony Domenico, director of bands in BAHS of his students in the music department. Students in the music department and Mr. Domenico are a big part of how Bel Air High school was able to do what they did for the organization.
Megan Rolocut, the Tri-M president says, “It’s nice for the students in the school to be able to care for the kids who haven’t been as fortunate as many of us have, and it’s really nice to know that there will be kids waking up to toys on Christmas because of us.”
