Fall Sports Begin on August 14th at BAHS

On Wednesday, August 14th Bobcats will once again be prowling on the athletic fields at Bel Air High School as 2013 Fall Sports season officially begins.

In order for any students to try out for a sport, they must have a physical dated after June 7th, 2013.  Also, any athletes trying out for football, cheerleading, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and field hockey must have completed a concussion test. Students will also be required to bring a July or August BGE Bill for proof of residence.

Boys’ soccer tryouts will begin on the 14th at 7 AM at Cedar Lane Park.  One of the main criteria coaches are looking for is athletes being able to run a mile in under 6 minutes. There will be lots of running in the tryout process.

Field Hockey tryouts will also begin at 7 AM on the field in front of the stadium.  Tryouts will be 3 days long and cuts will be made on the third day.  Athletes trying out for field hockey are strongly encouraged to be on time!  The team will practice in order to prepare for their first scrimmage on August 21st against Wilde Lake.

Girls’ Soccer tryouts will begin at 8 AM and will meet at the pavilion by the old stadium. At 7:45 AM before the tryouts start, there will be a short meeting held under the pavilion. Parents are encouraged to attend.  Girls trying out for soccer will be judged on their skill level, cooperation, team work and their coachability.

Girls’ Volleyball tryouts will be held in the BAHS gym at 9 AM on the 14th. Tryouts will be 3 days long and cuts will be made on the 3rd day.  Girls will be judged on their skill level as well as their passion and their drive to improve.

Football Tryouts will be held on the turf field at 10 AM.  During tryouts, coaches will be looking for the physical condition of the player as well as their work ethic and their character.

Golf tryouts will not be held at BAHS and instead will be held at Winters Run Golf.  Golf will not have a JV team and anyone trying out must make the varsity team. Golfers must bring their own equipment and there is a strict dress code that golfers are encouraged to look at.  The dress code will be enforced once the team is selected.

Cheerleading tryouts will be held at 3 PM in the BAHS gym.  Tryouts will be 3 days long and cuts will be made on the third day. Anyone trying out for cheerleading will be judged on their ability to stunt, tumble, jump, dance, and cheer.

Cross Country tryouts will be held at Tollgate Park at 7 PM. Athletes are encouraged to have a broken in pair of running shoes. The team is looking for 20 boys and 20 girls.
