As part of her Senior Biomed project, Meghan Heeter is running a hair donation drive for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths. The event itself will take place at Hair Design, at 122 North Main Street in Bel Air. The event will take place on Saturday, March 23rd  from 1pm to 4pm. Hair must be at least eight inches in length and cannot contain any bleaches, chemicals or dyes.   Also, any person who donates their hair will be able to get their hair cut and styled by the professionals at Hair Design for only $20; which is a $14 savings off of a regular cut and style.

“This process has been unbelievably difficult,” Heeter said. “I had to contact multiple salons to see if they would host the event. I got turned down multiple times. It has also been difficult to find people who want to donate. I know I can’t give up though.”

Her interest in the topic began back in middle school. “In seventh grade I did a project on leukemia. I have known people who have been diagnosed with cancer and who have fought the battle,” Meghan said. “A good friend of mine, who had leukemia, has really inspired me to complete this project.”

The Senior Project is a required component for all Biomed students who want to graduate from the program. The two components include a learning portion and an innovation portion. “The event is my innovation. For the learning portion I interviewed multiple cancer patients and survivors,” Meghan said. “I also interviewed an oncologist and oncology nurse.”

Anyone on the fence about donating is strongly encouraged to come out and support this cause. “Imagine knowing that you helped bring joy to someone,” Meghan said. “Think about the difference you are going to make in someone else’s life.”
