Basketball Season Review

Josh Munley

The Bel Air Men’s Basketball Team’s season ended with an 81-55 loss to Parkville in the first round of the 4A playoffs. With the loss, the final record for the Cats was 11-10, placing them third in the Susquehanna Division.

The goal for the team was to win a playoff game and earn promotion to the upper division (Chesapeake) of Harford County Basketball. Although neither goal was accomplished, the season was not necessarily deemed as unsuccessful. Multiple underclassmen were able to develop and become better players, which will help for next season.

Six players will be returning, bringing immense experience to the squad. Devin Anderson has been a star player on the team since his sophomore season and he will push the rest of the team to develop and ultimately win games. With Elkton relegated from the Chesapeake Division, the Bobcats will have another tough team to get through next year to earn promotion.

“It was an okay season in my eyes. We didn’t achieve our goals, but we had fun and learned a lot,” explains team member, Jon Scott. “The past four years have been great and I’ve enjoyed every last minute of it. It’s a shame that it’s all over.”

The JV team tied the best record in history, finishing 16-3. Coach Shaw invested a lot of time and effort into the team to help them grow and become ready to join the varsity team.

“I’m proud of our guys and the season we had. It’s unfortunate we didn’t win the league, but I’m still glad I was able to spend the year with a great group of guys.” Says Daniel Webber, another member of the team. “Hopefully next year Bel Air can achieve great things”

The team will participate in a summer basketball league to improve their skills and keep a ball in their hand. Coach Darko will be monitoring the league to make sure the boys will be ready for next November!
