During the 2015-2016 season, Bel Air sports experienced mountains of success, which included 3 teams reaching their ultimate goals; Girls’ Soccer, Baseball, and field Hockey all won their sports’ State Championship. The Bobcats continue to reign superior in multiple sports.

In the fall, Girls’ Soccer, led by head coach Josh Clemmer and Captains Anna Wehland, Natalie Neff, Jamie Layfield and Andrea Sipos, completed the perfect undefeated 19-0 season and knocked down Linganore 3-1 in the State Championship.

Junior Mady Dougherty says, “We were definitely the team to beat. We played and gave 100% and it all paid off in the end.”

Our Lady Bobcats weren’t the only fall sport to win the state title. Field Hockey defeated the Westminster Owls, 2-1. It was a storybook ending for the Bobcats, as they entered the playoffs as underdogs with a 10-7 overall record, knocking down the Field Hockey powerhouse and defending state champions. Field Hockey hasn’t won this title since 1977, and this was the second championship in school history. The victory was obtained with first year Head Coach Emily Gryglewski, team captains Anna Farley and Emma Chmielewski.

In the spring, Head Coach John Swanson led Bel Air Baseball through an electrifying season, and topped it off with an 8-1 win over Quince Orchard in the 4A State Championship game, securing their second state title since 2013. With a total 16-4 overall record, the Bobcats cruised through the playoffs, throwing 2 no-hitters, and heavily outscoring their opponents 42-2.

“We had a phenomenal year!” says Senior Captain Andrew Cotton. “We worked hard all season long and all of it payed off as we won states.”

We introduced the Bel Air Hockey team for the first time ever and they kicked off the program with an impressive 12-4 record in their inaugural season. Ice Hockey is a sport that many Bobcats feel we were missing here at Bel Air High School. Sophomore Forward, Blake Lioi said, “It was a fun year and we had a really good season. Hopefully we can come back even better than we were this year.”

Overall, almost every sport in Bel Air had a positive win/loss record. Other BA teams that had success:
