On Wednesday, April 22, the Bel Air Boys’ Lacrosse team traveled across town to square off against the C. Milton Wright Mustangs. Coming off of a big win against Towson, the Bobcats were ready to bring their game back to an in-country rival. In what was a very competitive game, the Bobcats came out victorious, winning 13-8.

The game started out with the Mustangs in control, winning the ground ball battles, and playing well in transition, taking a 4-1 lead over Bel Air at the end of the first. Bel Air was not out of the fight though. They came out in the second and played toe-to-toe with C. Milton and clawed their way back into the game, taking the lead 6-5 at halftime.

“We definitely came out flat in the first quarter. We let them take the lead early, but that only motivated us to play harder,” commented Senior Captain Brad Casale, who scored a goal and led the team with two assists. “We just started playing our game out there, and when we get in the zone, we’re pretty tough to stop.”

The second half was dominated by the Bobcats, outscoring the Mustangs 7-3. The Bobcats played lockdown defense led by the Senior Captain Ryan Clelland, and Sophomore Josh Carlin. Despite not winning every faceoff, Bel Air midfielder Anthony Sampayo played the loose balls incredibly leading the team in ground balls. C. Milton played impressively hard, trying to mount a comeback, but Bel Air was having none of it. On multiple times C. Milton would make great defensive plays and win back possession, but the Bel Air attack rode well and caused numerous turnovers in the C. Milton defensive end that led to fast break goals. In the end the Mustangs effort was not enough, and Bel Air took a pivotal in-county victory 13-8.

“On to the next one,” was Senior Garret Utz’s comment after the game. Utz led the game in scoring putting four goals past the Mustang goalie. “We’re right where we want to be right now. We’ve had a lot of strong team wins lately and we’re hoping we can keep it rolling. We’re as ready as we ever could be to face Patterson Mill on Friday.”

Bel Air’s next game will be on Friday, April 24, as the Huskies of Patterson Mill travel to Bel Air Stadium to compete against the Bobcats.
