The Bel Air Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team started off their season at Liberty High School on Monday, Dec. 5, losing the game 60-43. They came back strong the next day, Tuesday Dec. 6, beating Havre De Grace High School 46-20 in their home opener.

The Bobcats traveled to Liberty High School to take on the Lions last Tuesday. Sophomore Autumn Dougherty had a strong game, putting up 10 points. At halftime, the Bobcats were down only 23-21, however they were unable to pull even and take the lead in the second half.

“It was really a team effort all the way through the game,” Dougherty says. “It’s unfortunate that we were not able to come out with the win, but I think it was a great way to start off the season, playing a very strong team, and I’m really excited to see what this season has in store for us.”

The Bobcats came out strong against Havre De Grace, taking the lead and continuing to put up points against the Warriors. Sophomore Bailey Springer played a solid game, adding 10 points to the score and making a big impact on both offense and defense. The Bobcats were up 30-11 at halftime, and were able to add 16 points in the second half, and held the warriors to only 9 points.

“I was very excited about our strong win against Havre De Grace,” explains junior captain Julia Henry. “Our team is young and we’re playing well together already, which is unexpected so early in the season. But, I think we’re going to surprise a lot of teams this year with our abilities, and I’m looking forward to the success our team will have.”

The Bobcats will play their next game against Joppatowne High School at 5:00 p.m. at Joppatowne on Friday, Dec. 9, followed by a game at Edgewood High School at 6:45 p.m. on Dec.16. Go Bobcats!
