On Tuesday, Oct. 25, The Bel Air Bobcats Cross Country Team competed in the UCBAC Championship Race, at Fair Hill in Elkton.

The Bobcats competed with eleven other schools, including the Harford County rivals North Harford, Fallston, C. Milton Wright, and Patterson Mill, among others.

The Lady Bobcats finished in second place as a team, scoring 85 and were only behind C. Milton’s 41. The girls were led by freshman Rebekah Cross, who ran a 21:04.32 that put her in an impressive fifth place out of 80 total runners.

The boys race was once again won by Bobcat junior Kieran McDermott, who finished the race with a 16:35.04. Fellow junior Ethan Gray finished not far behind in fifth place out of 94 total runners. Gray finished with a 17:12.14.

“The team ran really well in the cold temperatures, and worked well together,” says Senior Captain Taylor Patrick. “I think we have a really good shot at going to states this year if we keep up all the hard work.”

The UCBAC Championship marked the seventh race this season that McDermott has finished in the top five; the junior has been extremely impressive this season. The team hopes to continue its success and get to states this season. Go ‘Cats!
