Bel Air Tennis Team Defeats Rising Sun Tigers

On Monday, April 11, the Bel Air High School Varsity Tennis team traveled to Rising Sun High School and defeated the Tigers 6-5.

For the Girls’ Singles, both Yasmine Saikali and Gabby Encarnacion were successful. Junior Yasmime Saikali won her matches with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Senior Gabby Encarnacion won her match with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Both of these girls have been major contributors to the team’s wins this season.

For the Boy Doubles, partners Jacob Rannie and Douglas Naumann won their match with scores 6-0 and 6-3. Nick Sulzbach and Evan Kern won their match with scores 6-3 and 6-1.

“As playing the match deciding game with my partner, Evan Kern, having our team backing us up really helped us to victory,” stated Junior Nick Sulzbach after his win against the Tigers.

Senior Evan Kern stated, “Coming into the second half of the season, I’m confident that the team will finish strong and compete in the postseason.”

Also adding to the team win was Marissa Pasquinelli and Skyler Soriano for the Girls’ Doubles, and David Moore and Donna Nguyen for the Mixed Doubles. The girls won the match with a scores 6-4 and 6-4, while the mixed doubles team won with scores 6-2 and 6-0.

“It was a really fun match and they were good competition,” quoted by Senior Skylar Soriano on her feelings about the match.

The Varsity Tennis has a match on Thursday, April 14 against Aberdeen at home.
