On Friday and Saturday, Mar. 4-5, 2016, the Bel Air Wrestling team competed in the State Championship at College Park. As a team, the Bobcats placed 11th and out of the six qualifying wrestlers, there was one state champion.

Freshman Brent Lorin won the state title for the 106 lb. weight class. He was the 18th wrestling state champion in Bel Air High School history. He was also the 1st Bel Air freshman to win the title. Lorin finished his season with an undefeated record of 44-0 and made the first team All-Academic MD Wrestling Team.

Coach Reddish said that during the final match, “his opponent scored the first takedown and Brent quickly tied the score at the end of the first period.  Brent reversed his opponent in the third period and rode him out for the win 4-2.”

Lorin said, “I’m definitely looking forward to wrestling next year, my experience this season was incredible, and surprised me a lot. I was shocked to go undefeated all season and to win the state title.  Choosing to wrestle in high school was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

Senior Captain and state qualifier Dakota Crawford said, “I’m extremely proud that we brought 6 guys with us to go to states and I couldn’t be any happier to share my last wrestling moment with them. I’m so proud of Brent Lorin that he won the state championship and had an undefeated season as a freshmen. I’m extremely sad that wrestling is over because it taught me so many things. And yet, I’m so happy with my career getting over a 100 wins and so few losses. I’ll remember these moments for the rest of my life.”

Congratulations to all of the wrestlers on an incredible season. This team has a lot of talent that will continue to shine for years to come. Get excited to support your wrestlers next season and as always, go Bobcats!
