Varsity Baseball Off to a Slow Start This Season

Over the past week, the Bel Air Varsity Baseball team has gotten off to a slow start in this 2015 season, consisting of 4 straight makeup games due to the poor weather. After a scheduled game against the Loyola Dons last Tuesday, the Bobcats’ record stands at 2-4.

Beginning the season against Rising Sun, the Bobcats were unable to rally against the incredible pitching performance of the Tigers Pitcher, recording only 2 hits by JD Bruck and Jackson Struve as the Bobcats fell 3-1. After the disappointing loss to begin the season the Bobcats traveled to Perry Hall High School in hopes to redeem that loss. Starting the game for Bel Air was Sophomore Michael Yetter as he went 5 innings, as his brother Brendan Yetter came in to close out the game. After solid hitting and a few clutch 2 out rallies, the Bobcats put up 15 runs with help from Brendan Yetter’s 4 RBIs. Bel Air went on the win the game 15-8.

With the first in county game of the season, Bel Air next traveled to Fallston to play the Cougars. After being down 3-0 early the Bobcats were able to tie it up in the third and eventually go up 6-3 by the 7th. Even with the solid lead the Bobcats held they were unable to protect the lead, giving up 4 runs in the last inning and losing to the Cougars 7-6. Following the disappointing loss Bel Air Next traveled to C. Milton Wright as JD Bruck started on the bump and held the Mustangs to 3 runs and in the Bobcats’ 5-3 victory.

Captain Jack Jenkins said, “I know we are better than we’re playing, but I’m not worried. As soon as everyone buckles down and our offense gets hot we will be unstoppable. I still expect great things from this team.”
