On Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, the Bel Air Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team won the annual Bobcat Cup for the first time.

Games started bright and early at 9 a.m. in Bobcat stadium with the Bel Air Bobcats against the Huntingtown Hurricanes. The Lady Bobcats came out strong, seeking revenge from a tough semifinal defeat against the Hurricanes just last season. At the end of regulation, the match was tied 2-2. The Bobcat goals were both earned by Senior Kayla Klock.

The Bobcats then headed straight into penalty kicks for advancement purposes. Penalty kicks were made by Junior Gabby Encarnacion, Junior Juliana Portera, Junior Jamie Layfield, Junior McKenzie Wills, and Senior Kayla Klock.

Bel Air advanced and stole an easy 2-0 win over Century High School later that day in the Championship game. Freshman Lexie Kramer scored both goals to help the Bobcats shut out the Century Knights and at last receive the title as Bobcat Cup Champions.

After the tournament concluded, Senior Captain Shannon Williams commented on the big win. “It felt great to advance over Huntingtown after last year’s tough loss and to finally win the tournament, proving to ourselves that we have great potential throughout the remainder of the season.”
