Boys’ Basketball Season Ends to Rival C. Milton

On Fri., Feb. 28, 2014, the Bel Air Boys’ Basketball team traveled to C. Milton Wright to take on the Mustangs in the first round of the MPSSAA state playoffs.

C. Milton came out looking for revenge after suffering a 16 point loss to the Bobcats a month ago. The Mustangs started the game on fire, going on a 12-3 run to start the first quarter. The Bobcats tried to match the intensity, but C. Milton’s infamous hardnosed defense forced many turnovers early in the game. The Bobcats fell behind quickly, trailing 21-10 at the end of the first quarter.

C. Milton cooled off in the second quarter, allowing the Bobcats to gain a little momentum. After a technical foul was called on C. Milton, the Bobcats pulled within 10. C. Milton, however, would not be outdone on their home court, going on yet another run, smothering Bel Air’s momentum.  Bel Air, a usually good shooting team could not get any shots to fall.

“The difference in this game compared to the last one against C. Milton was that our shots didn’t fall,” Senior Captain Chirs Murdock said. “Sometimes, you just have an off night shooting.”

The score at half was 36-15 in favor of C. Milton.

The Bobcats, known for their persistence and determination, were not to about to be outdone in, possibly, the last game of the season. They played their hearts out and left everything on the court but could not overcome the monumental lead the Mustangs had accumulated. Bel Air fell to C. Milton by a score of 66-36.

Bel Air finished the season with a respectable 13-10 record (10-2 division). Bel Air also made it to the UCBAC championship game against an extremely good Joppatowne team, losing only by 6. The Bobcats had some notable wins against C. Milton and Fallston in an overall, “successful season,” according to Chris Murdock.
