On Wed., Feb. 26 2014, the Bel Air Bobcats Boys’ Varsity Basketball team took on the Joppatowne Mariners in the UCBAC Championship Game in hopes of becoming the Conference champions for the
2014 season.
After a mainly defensive 1st Quarter, the Bobcats fell behind 12-8, but remained in a very manageable comeback situation. The Bobcat offense made a quick turnaround and rallied back to tie the game at 24 heading into halftime.
After an impressive 3rd quarter for both teams, C.J. Simmons, John Gallina and J.D. Bruck paced the offensive tempo to keep the Bobcats in the game. Simmons, Gallina and Bruck combined for 42 points.
The incredible offensive spark for the Bobcats unfortunately fell short as the Mariners came out on top with a 61-55 win, taking the UCBAC Conference title.
On Fri., Feb. 29, the Bobcats will travel to C.Milton Wright High School to face the Mustangs for a huge matchup in the first round of the playoffs. Last time these two teams met, Bel Air came out on top in an
impressive upset.
Coach Getz is preparing the team for a tough game on Friday, as he talked a bit of strategy regarding the Mustangs. “If we can duplicate what we did the first time we played them, get off to a [26 point lead as they did last game], shoot well to negate their fast break and contain Stefanides and the two Bays’ brothers, we can hold them to one shot each time down the floor.”
