Field Hockey Fights Huskies to a Draw

On Oct., 2 2013, the Bel Air High School Field Hockey team took on their bitter cross-town rival Patterson Mill in an intense, much anticipated game at Bel Air High School.

The first half was a back and forth battle with the Bobcats having to clear the ball multiple times following the Huskies attack. Both teams had chances in the first half but could not put the ball in the goal.

The second held much of the same, but Jessica Vasquez opened the scoring from a corner off of an assist by Kailee Chavis at the 23 minute mark. With 6 minutes left in the game Patterson Mill tied the game with a goal of their own off of a corner. Savannah Garcia had a phenomenal game in goal tallying 9 saves.

The game remained tied and went into 2 over times in which both teams could still not score to win the game. Both overtimes were much like the regular time with both teams desperate to win the game but could find the net.

With the second overtime done and in the books the team went into penalty strokes. 5 players go out from each team to have a one on one with the goalie. After a highly intense couple of minutes the score evened out to be 2 -2. Tori Griglewski and Anna Farley each scored their stroke.

Following the game Senior Captain Tori Griglewski stated, “We wanted to beat Patterson Mill really bad. But I will say a tie is better than a loss and we are still considered undefeated. The game motivated us to keep our winning streak going and from here on out we have to keep trying our best. We hope to have the bobcat spirit to support us against C. Milton!”

The Bobcats travel to C. Milton Wright High School to play the Mustangs in another highly anticipated game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.
