Last Meeting Signals Home Stretch for Seniors

On Wed., April 3, 2014, the senior class gathered at 7: 50 A.M. in the auditorium to have their last senior meeting of the 2014 school year.

The meeting was run by Mr. Smith and Mrs. Taylor, the senior class advisors, along with Tori Gryglewski, Jessica Vazquez, Olivia Rose and Brittany Decker, the senior class officers. The meeting began with a brief word from Principal Komondor and Mr. Riley about graduation requirements and how important it was to reach the end of the year with good grades.

Mr. Smith and Mrs. Taylor then delved into the important dates that seniors needed to remember from now until the end of the year. The important dates are as follows:

On April 23, seniors will vote for their prom court during homeroom. On Friday, April 25 will be the DUI Mock Trial which seniors are required to attend if they plan to go to prom. Prom is on April 24at Martins East. Tickets will be on sale before and after school only from Mon., April 7 until Thu., April 24 and cost $110 for a couple and $55 for a single ticket. All financial obligations must be taken care of and out of school guest forms must be completed before purchasing tickets.

The after prom party, planned by Denise Aulton, will be held at Bel Air Athletic Club from 11:30 P.M. to 4:30 A.M.  Door prizes, raffles, and contests will be handed out, as well as the annual tradition of raffling off a car to one lucky senior. Admission is free.

On Wed., April 30 at 2:15 P.M. in Mr. Smith’s room, the senior class officers will hold a meeting to discuss and plan the design for the senior shirts. As with the fall senior shirts, the class will vote on their favorite design in homeroom. Spring senior shirts will cost $10 and orders can be handed in on Mon., May 5 and Fri., May 9 and will be handed out during the last graduation practice. All seniors who plan on attending the graduation ceremony are required to attend at least 3 graduation practices.

On Thu., May 29 at 7:30 A.M., the seniors will report to the cafeteria for the Senior Awards Assembly. All appropriate graduation attire is to be worn and will be dismissed after graduation practice. Seniors will also receive their graduation tickets at this time. Each senior receives 6 tickets: 4 for the gym and 2 for the auditorium.

The senior class trip this year will be to Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia on Fri., May 30. The trip will cost $80 per person. Tickets will be on sale from Mon., May 5 to Fri., May 9. The bus sign-ups are first come first serve. The class will depart Bel Air High School at 8 A.M. and arrive back at school at 10 P.M.

Mr. Smith and Mrs. Taylor also mentioned that any student who wished to give a speech at graduation should submit a 2-3 minuet long speech to Mrs. Taylor by Tue., May 6 to be read aloud in front of a panel of judges.

Graduation is Mon., June 2 at 6 P.M.  Seniors should arrive at Bel Air High School by 5:00 P.M. and guests should be seated by 5:45 P.M. Graduation is about 2 hours long Afterwards, the Chemical Free Cruise will be held on The Spirit of Baltimore in the Inner Harbor from midnight to 3 A.M. Admission onto the boat is free, and any graduate wishing to participate should arrive at Bel Air high School to board the buses at 10:30 P.M. and will arrive back at Bel Air High School at 3:45 A.M.

Finally, the seniors were given their senior packets which contain all the forms and dates needed for the rest of the events for this year. The seniors were also given the voting sheet for senior superlatives, which will be featured in the yearbook. Completed sheets should be brought to Mr. Blackburn’s room in C307.

Seniors who missed the meeting or who have lost their senior packets should see Mr. Smith in room B208 before or after school. A replacement packet will cost $2.
