World Wetlands Festival Promotes Popsicle Plunge

On Sun., Feb. 2, 2014, the Anita Leight Estuary Center housed the annual World Wetlands Festival to promote the Popsicle Plunge and educate the public about conservation.

The Festival featured food and a scavenger hunt, however the main attraction were the rescued animals. Wildlife experts brought some of the center’s rescued animals in order to teach the participants about the different species found in the estuary. The presenters engaged the audiences by combining visual demonstrations with education.

The Anita Leight Estuary Center is just one of many centers working along the Chesapeake Bay. Among these centers is the Marshy Point Nature Center who will be hosting the eighth annual Popsicle Plunge. The Popsicle Plunge is a yearly event that is used to raise funds for all of the estuary centers working with the Chesapeake Bay so that they are able to continue growing and meeting their goals. This year, the Plunge is being used to help complete the centers’ trail system.

Allegra Kavlich, a Plunge participant says that, “I am happy to take part in the Plunge! The funds are going to great cause and I’m glad that I get to be a part of something that makes such a big difference.”
