No Kill Harford Washes Away Animal Abuse

On Sat., Dec. 14, 2013, the Pet Value in Abingdon held a cat adoption and dog wash in order to support the No Kill Harford organization.

The No Kill Harford organization is a volunteer, non-profit organization that uses programs, collaboration and advocacy to ensure that no adoptable pet or feral cat is killed due to economics, resources, or politics. They accomplish their goals by accepting animals that are about to be euthanized from the Humane society shelters or raising money to help stray animals recover from injury, as was the case with Tread, a stray cat that was suffering from a crushed pelvis and a broken leg who now enjoys the comfort of his new family.

Many of their animals are obtained from the Humane Society. Volunteer Jeane Parker explains that, “Many of our animals are surrenders. Clifford, for example, was scheduled to be euthanized and there’s nothing wrong with her. She’s three years old and is very sweet.”

The group also helps pet owners who are falling on hard times with keeping their pets. They can help to provide food so that owners won’t have to put down their pets due to a lack of money.

If you wish to get involved in the cause you may donate money to the organization or choose to volunteer if you aren’t able to spare the money. As volunteer Janette Parker said, “We are always looking for volunteers of any age so feel free to stop by.”
