Student/Faculty Volleyball Game Tonight To Benefit Scholarship Fund

Tonight, Thursday, January 17th Bel Air High School will host its first Student/Faculty Volleyball Game with all proceeds from the event going to the Matt Rutherford Foundation.  The game begins 7 p.m.in BAHS Gymnasium and the admission is $2.00, and “Game Passes” will not be accepted for this charitable event.

Matt Rutherford was a student at Bel Air High School who sadly passed away on December 28, 2007 after being in a car accident on December 23, 2007.  His parents, Kevin and Chele Rutherford, were determined to help the school that their son so dearly loved, so they began the fund known as Matthew “Hank” Rutherford Memorial Scholarship Fund.  This foundation originally was set on putting new weight lifting equipment into Bel Air High School but now has grown to offer scholarships to a select few students from Bel Air High School every year.

“The Matthew “Hank” Rutherford Memorial Scholarship Fund offers college and trade school scholarships to students from Bel Air High School who display strong character and aspire to make meaningful contributions to society” states the Matthew Rutherford Foundation’s website.

The Matt Rutherford Foundation gave out their first scholarship in 2009 to Brendan Payne, who was in Matt’s graduating class.  Since then the Matt Rutherford Foundation has given out 10 more scholarships to students who attended Bel Air High School.

Warner, Mrs. Kozak, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Harris, Ms. Barry and Mr. Blackburn.

The game is sure to provide a lot of entertainment and all proceeds go to the Matt Rutherford Foundation so come on out and support the students at your local High School.
