Always Fun at Farm Fair

The 25th Annual Harford County Farm Fair was once again enjoyed a great turn out of Harford County residents.   The farm fair is dedicated to promoting agriculture, 4-H and the Future Farmers of America in Harford County, to help provide an opportunity to showcase the history, active local economy an future of farming throughout the region to enjoy.  This year Farm Fair organizers decided to hold a carnival several days before the Fair actually began.   The Farm Fair Carnival was held as a fundraising activity to offset the costs of the traditional farm fair.  Unfortunately poor weather seemed to hold the attendance numbers down and Farm Fair Director Skip Pieper said, “The new pre-fair carnival, however, did not have the fiscal impact organizers had hoped, and Pieper said he is not sure if it will be back.”

The fair itself was scheduled to begin on Thursday evening with the annual fireworks, but unfortunately a strong storm came through area and the fireworks were cancelled.   After that little setback the fair began to really kick into “High-Gear.”   The East Coast National Truck and Tractor pull was held Friday and Saturday night, along with the new Farm Fair Talent Contest.   Friday night was the preliminaries and Saturday night was the finals. Throughout the afternoons on Thursday through Sunday pig races were held, as well as Flying Hounds Frisbee Trick Dog show, and all sorts of games in the Kid-Way Center.

Members of the Bobcat Football team worked at the Kid-Way games as a way to help out in the community.  Team members ran various carnival-type games, as well as worked to supervise the different “Moon Bounce” inflatable attractions that were available for smaller children.

Each day, throughout the fair, all sorts of animals were in the exhibits. Horses, cows, pigs, chickens, llamas, goats, sheep, rabbits were available to get a close look at.   People could walk through the exhibits or the barns where animals were staying and pet them. The Harford County Farm Fair’s 4-H events continue to grow and the whole events had another very successful year.
