Bobcat Baseball goes Viral

Last week, Sports Center did their weekly neighborhood plays and Bel Air’s very own Junior Varsity baseball team made not only the top ten, but number three.

The play was a triple play in which the third basemen, Brody Cullison, tagged out the runner, then threw the ball across to the first basemen, Craig Wood, who got the hitter out. Wood then threw the ball back across the diamond to short stop Cole Slembecker, who tagged the player running from second base to third base.

The play was being recorded by Bel Air pitcher, Brandon Dockery’s father. He was recording various plays of the game so the team was able to look at the footage later; he had no idea this shot would later go viral.

According to shortstop Cole Slembecker, “I had put the video on YouTube and it sort of went viral I guess. All of the sudden I had different high school sports websites contacting me on Twitter, and then one day I checked my email for what I thought was another high school reaching out, but it  but it was actually from Sports Center’s management desk. They emailed me asking if they could use the video on their network, and obviously I said yes!”

The players were shocked that this play went viral, but as for the mechanics of the play, they were nothing but confident and elated of the plays recognition.

“I think it was odd that everything fell into place so perfectly for our team and even weirder that Sports Center had seen the film and put it on their network. Everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do and with the help of a minor hesitation from the runner, we ended up with a great play!”

The Bobcats Junior Varsity team is coached by Johnathan Andrews, who says that in all 25 years that he has played, coached and umpired baseball, he has never seen a play like that. “I was excited to get out of the jam we were in. We were at first and second with no one out and honestly at the time I didn’t think it was a big deal. The play just unfolded perfectly for us.”

The moment that the Bobcats JV team appeared on Sports Center will be remembered for a long time to come, and will be carried on forever with the players and coaches of that team.
