With the fall sports season coming to a close, the winter sports have begun practicing for their upcoming season. The Bel Air Girls’ Basketball Team is looking to have a strong season after losing strong senior players Natalie Neff, Julie Bernoski, and Anna Puntanen. The Lady Bobcats finished last season with a 7-7-2 record, and ranked 8th in the county.

Some of the key returning players expected to make an impact this season are: Sophomores Grace Wehland and Bailey Springer, junior Julia Henry, and senior Oceana Murphy.

Some key newcomers who are ready to make their mark on the team include: Freshman Maggi Hall and sophomores Autumn Dougherty and Megan Hoy.

Giving her thoughts on the upcoming season, junior Julia Henry explains, “We’re a very fast team with a lot of potential and I think we’re going to be very successful this season.”

Coach Skelton has brought together a lot of different players to make a team that can work together well. With a lot of underclassman on the team, the upperclassmen are going to be bringing in a lot of leadership to make sure the team will be able to succeed.

“This year we have a very young, inexperienced team that is extremely athletic and talented. However, we have outstanding leadership and the girls have high expectations for themselves. I’m really excited to coach this team,” Coach Skelton explains.

The Lady Bobcats will begin their season with an away game on Dec. 5, against Liberty, and their first home game will be Dec. 6, against Havre De Grace. Make sure you come out and support the girls as they kick off an amazing season!
