On Wednesday May 13, 2015 the Girls’ Lacrosse team traveled to Catonsville High School to compete in the 3A/4A Regional Championship.

The ‘Cats got on the board first when Junior Bekah Riley tallied her first of the night and the first of the game. The Comets fought back and scored two of their own to extend the lead 2-1. The Bobcats tallied another one to answer the Comets two goal run to tie the score back up at 2-2 when Riley scored her second. The ‘Cats continued the intensity only allowing three Catonsville goals the rest of the first half and scored eight goals to take the lead to 10-5 going into half. Freshman Julia Henry, Junior Emily McQuay and Senior Captains Sam Keesey and Shannon Williams all tallied one first half goal while Sophomore Anna Farley and Riley both tallied two goals to complete. 10-5 was the score at half time.

“Everyone played their hardest and all the hard work we put in at practice throughout the season showed. We never gave up and kept our composure when they started to pressure us. It was awesome to finally beat them in the championship after losing to them the past three years.” stated Junior Bekah Riley.

The Comets ruled the first couple minutes of the second half when they scored four unanswered goals to shorten the lead to 10-9. The ‘Cats then answered when McQuay scored her second of the game to extend the lead to 11-9. The Comets would answer the Bobcat goal and make it 11-10. Junior Riley would tally her fifth of the game and end the scoring for the Bobcats making the score 12-10. The Comets would essentially get the last goal of the game to make the final score 12-11 in favor of the Bobcats.

The Bobcat defense played a very solid game with Sophomore Molly Loughlin stepping up in cage tallying 16 saves while in the draw circle, Senior Captain Shannon Williams lead with four draw controls and McQuay adding two.

“All the credit goes to the girls.” said Coach Barry. “From day one, we told ourselves that we had the talent to do it. We just had to believe in ourselves and execute. They did.”

The ‘Cats move on the the 3A/4A State Semifinals on May 15 at Northeast High School in Anne Arundel County.
