Wrestling Gains Two Wins and Honors Seniors

On Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Thursday, Jan. 29, the wrestling team took on the visiting Bo Manor Eagles and then travelled to Annapolis High School to take on the Panthers.

The team honored the seven graduating seniors on the team before the match began. Seniors Dalton Foster, Micah Hunter-Goski, Kevin Joiner, Ralph Massesmei, David Reagan, Brady Stafford, and Cameron Watts, in addition to all their parents were honored and thanked for all they have done over the past four years.

The Bobcats started out with a slow start when they lost the first two matches but then picked up the pace by achieving four wins in a row. Three of the four wins came from pins coming from Sophomores Scott Miser and Sam Queen, and Junior Trevor Proctor while Senior Captain Cameron Watts added three team points to the team score. The Eagles answered the four wins and achieved two pins in a row. The ‘Cats then went on into another four win streak but this time, three of the four wins came from forfeits, but Junior Dakota Crawford then pinned his opponent to add six points to the team score. In the last two matches, the Eagles and Bobcats exchanged wins when Senior Captain Brady Stafford pinned his opponent in the second period to secure 51-24 win over the Eagles.

“We wrestled great and hard, but we will have a lot to work on before the upcoming tournaments and matches,” said Sophomore Tom Gomez.

After a day of rest, the Bobcats travelled to Annapolis High School on Thursday, Jan 29 to take on the Panthers. The match started off with two forfeits in favor of the Bobcats to quickly go up 12-0 against the Panthers. Junior Tyler Ham kept the six point streak going when he pinned his opponent in the third period to take the score to 18-0. After a Panther win, the Bobcats then won the next five matches. Freshman Liam Bowers and Seniors Ralph Massemei and Captain Brady Stafford all tallied three points to the score during the five win streak. Sophomore Scott Miser pinned his opponent to add six team points. During the five consecutive wins, there was one forfeit in favor of the Bobcats. The Panthers then won two of their own to answer the Bobcats five. At the end of the match, Sophomore Tom Gomez then pinned his opponent to add another six, and then another six were added to the team off of another Panther forfeit. The ‘Cats went on to win at Annapolis High School, 51-15.

“We need to pick it up,” stated Captain Brady Stafford. “Even though we won with a large lead, we are going to be facing tougher teams and we need to be ready.”

The ‘Cats move to 20-5 on the season and will travel to face Patterson Mill on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2015 in their last regular season match before they take on the post season tournaments.
