Starting off the season with three games already under their belt, the Bel Air Girls’ Varsity Basketball team has a record of 2-1. With two glorious victories to motivate them, the Bobcats beat the Joppatowne Mariners and the North Harford Hawks.

On Friday, Dec. 5, the Lady Cats’ defeated Joppatowne with a final score of 52-23. This was the team’s first game. Going into halftime, the score was 29-14, Bel Air. Bel Air is a new team with many things to learn, but their skills really showed in the second half. Leading the offense was Captain Natalie Neff with 10 points, as well as Junior Julie Bernoski who had 9. Leading the defense was Anna Wehland with 9 rebounds, Catia Johnson with 6 and Kayla Klock with 4 deflections.

“We should be happy with the win that we got. We set the bar with this first game for the season, but now we need to continue to put in work and keep focusing on getting better,” said Captain Mariah Thomas after the first victory against Joppa.

It was a sad loss for the girls against the Glenelg Elks, the final score was 52-38. However, with a quick bounce back, the lady bobcats defeated the North Harford Hawks on Thursday, Dec. 11 with a final score of 40-28. It was another home game win for the girls’ with key players Natalie Neff, Catia Johnson and Anna Wehland.

“This was a good win for us, but I also think it helped us show what we need to work on to become a better team. Defense is key for our team and we need to learn to protect the ball,” said Captain Renie Tsomos.
