Wrestling Participates In Aberdeen Duals and Tech Match

On Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 and Saturday Dec. 6, 2014 the Wrestling team traveled to Aberdeen High School to compete in the Aberdeen Duals.

The Bobcats competed in a series of matches throughout the tournament and ended the weekend with an overall record of 5-1. The Bobcats took on North Hagerstown for the first match of the tournament, which resulted in the Bobcat’s first and only loss of the tournament with an overall team score of 54-12. The Bobcats then took on the Fallston Cougars in their second match of the day on Friday and came out with the 52-18 win over the Cougars. At the end of the day on Friday, the Bobcats were 1-1 going into the second day of wrestling on Saturday.

To start off the day the Bobcats took on Marriott’s Ridge High school and defeated the Mustangs 37-18, moving their record to 2-1. The Bobcats successfully beat their next opponent, the Perryville Panthers, with a score of 63-9. The last match of the tournament was against the host school, the Aberdeen Eagles. The Bobcats earned their fourth win of the tournament, beating the Eagles 48-20. The Bobcats would place second overall for the weekend at the Aberdeen Duals with North Hagerstown coming in first.

“We’ve been doing great and I expect big things this season,” stated Senior Captain Brady Stafford. “With the support of our family and friends, we all make a successful team and really get along well. It was awesome to see some of our younger guys come out with huge wins for us this weekend and it really shows that all our hard work so far this season is paying off. We all would like to see more fans come out to our home matches because we all put in a lot of work and we would like to have some more support from our school.”

On Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 the Bobcats were back in action at Harford Tech High School to take on the Cobras in their first match of the regular season. The match started with a Bobcat loss, but fortunately it was their only loss of the day. Following the loss, Senior Captain Cameron Watts wrestled a tight match against his opponent, but came out with a win to take the overall team score to 3-6 with the Cobras leading. Freshmen Scott Miser and Joe Cirillo, Sophomore Sam Queen, and Junior Evan Sordillo all added six points to the team score off of forfeits coming from the Cobras. Sophomore Tom Gomez pinned his opponent with 48 seconds to go in the first period with another pin to follow coming from Junior Dakota Crawford with 35 seconds to go in the first period. Crawford and Gomez added another six points to the team score to make it 39-3.

“We worked hard and wrestled hard and drove many wrestlers to a victory,” said Senior Captain Cameron Watts about the Harford Tech match.

Sophomore Cody Seibel added another pin and six points to the team score earning his pin in the last period of his match. Senior Captain David Reagan followed Seibel’s pin in a tough match, but eventually achieved a victory and earned three team points. Junior Tyler Ham pinned his opponent in the second period to add another six points to the huge Bobcat lead over the Cobras. Senior Dalton Foster then wrestled another tight scoring match and was able to pull out the 12-5 victory over his opponent. Senior Brad Stafford then took the mat and pinned his opponent in the first minute of the match making the team score 63-3. Last up for the Bobcats was Freshman Liam Bowers. Bowers earned four points for the Bobcats as he shutout his opponent 8-0 and made the team score 67-3 as the ‘Cats took the win over the Cobras.
